01 — Planning
See where the scar will sit
Marked against the underwear you actually wear.
The abdominoplasty scar is placed low so that it hides — but how low is low enough depends on what you wear. Bring your usual underwear or swimwear to the planning visit and we mark the incision against it, not against an average.
Your surgeon also checks whether the abdominal muscles have separated, since that is what decides whether a mini is enough or the full procedure is needed. You see both findings before anything is booked.
Markings and measurements guide the plan. They illustrate an expected direction, not a guaranteed outcome.
What is a tummy tuck?
A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) removes excess abdominal skin and fat and repairs separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti) to restore a flat, firm, well-defined stomach.
Loose skin and muscle separation often follow pregnancy or major weight loss and rarely respond to exercise alone. The YOUNIFY team assesses your skin excess and muscle condition to choose the right technique, and can combine it with liposuction for finer contouring.
Concerns it addresses
Loose / layered abdominal skin
Stretched, hanging skin after pregnancy or significant weight loss.
Separated muscles (diastasis recti)
The abdominal wall has separated, so the belly protrudes even when slim.
Stretch marks below the navel
Stretch marks and excess skin below the navel that exercise won't resolve.
Lower belly bulge despite exercise
The lower belly stays out because of skin and muscle wall — not just fat.
Tummy Tuck vs Liposuction
The most common question in this service line. They treat different problems, and are often combined.
| Tummy Tuck | Liposuction | |
|---|---|---|
| What it treats | Loose skin, fat, and separated muscle | Fat |
| Loose skin | Excess skin is cut away | Not removed — relies on the skin retracting |
| Abdominal muscle | Separated muscle can be repaired | Not addressed |
| Scar | A line low across the abdomen | Millimetre ports, easily hidden |
| Suited to | Loose skin after pregnancy or major weight loss | Stubborn fat with skin that still has good tone |
Mini vs Full Tummy Tuck
The two techniques suit different degrees of the same problem. Your surgeon will assess which applies.
| Mini Tummy Tuck | Full Tummy Tuck | |
|---|---|---|
| Area treated | Mainly below the navel | The whole abdomen |
| Muscle repair | Limited | Full repair possible |
| Scar length | Shorter | Extends across the hips |
| Suited to | Mild skin laxity | Marked laxity with separated muscle |
How we plan your result
A tummy tuck isn't only removing fat — it addresses excess skin and the separated muscle wall (a rectus repair). Planning looks at both skin laxity and whether a muscle repair is needed, with the scar hidden low.
Your planning options
Who is it for
- Those with loose abdominal skin after pregnancy or weight loss
- Those with separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti)
- Those whose stomach stays loose despite exercise
- Those in good health at a stable weight with no contraindications
03 — Technique
How much needs to be done
The extent is set by where the loose skin sits and whether the abdominal muscles have separated. A longer scar buys more correction — your surgeon will show you that trade-off on your own anatomy.

Mini tummy tuck
Works on the area below the navel only. The navel itself is not moved.
Benefits: The shortest scar and the quickest recovery of the three.
Suitable for: Looseness confined to the lower abdomen, with the muscles above the navel intact.

Full tummy tuck
Treats the whole abdominal wall. Separated muscle is repaired and the navel is repositioned.
Benefits: The only option that can repair muscle separation along the full abdomen.
Suitable for: Loose skin above and below the navel, or diastasis recti after pregnancy. The scar runs low across the abdomen, below the bikini line.

Combined with liposuction
Skin and muscle are addressed surgically while liposuction refines the flanks and waist in the same session.
Benefits: Treats the contour around the abdomen, not only the front of it — one recovery instead of two.
Suitable for: Patients who also carry fat at the flanks or waist. Suitability depends on the total volume treated in a single session.

Frequently asked questions
How is a tummy tuck different from liposuction?
Liposuction removes fat but does not address loose skin or separated muscle. A tummy tuck corrects both skin and muscle — and is often combined with liposuction for a complete result.
Will the scar be long and visible?
The main scar runs low across the lower abdomen where it can hide under underwear, and fades gradually once healed.
Should I finish having children first?
It's best done once you don't plan further pregnancies, as another pregnancy can stretch the skin and muscle again.
How long is recovery?
Most return to light work in about 2 weeks and avoid strenuous exercise for around 4–6 weeks, as advised by your surgeon.
