A doctor's plain-language guide to what a complete health check-up includes, how it is personalised, and how to choose the right package.

Ключевые выводы

  • A good health check-up is not a single fixed list of tests. It is a conversation with a doctor, supported by the right investigations for your age, history, and goals. This guide explains what a complete check-up usually includes and how our medical team personalises it for you.

Why a check-up is worth your time

The point of screening is to find issues early, when there are often more options and simpler steps to take. A check-up can also give you a clear baseline - a snapshot of your health today that you and your doctor can compare against in future years. Screening helps reduce risk and supports earlier action; it does not remove all risk, and no single visit can find every possible condition.

The core building blocks

Most complete check-ups are built from a few standard components, then adjusted to you.

1. History and physical examination

Everything starts here. A doctor reviews your personal and family history, lifestyle, medications, and any symptoms, then performs a physical examination. This conversation is what decides which of the tests below actually make sense for you.

2. Vital signs and body measures

Blood pressure, heart rate, height, weight, and body-mass index are quick, useful markers that guide the rest of the visit.

3. Blood and urine tests

Common panels include:

  • Complete blood count (CBC) - screens for anaemia and signs of infection.
  • Blood sugar (fasting glucose, HbA1c) - screens for diabetes and pre-diabetes.
  • Lipid profile - cholesterol and triglycerides, relevant to heart health.
  • Liver and kidney function - how these organs are working.
  • Thyroid function - when symptoms or history suggest it.
  • Urinalysis - a simple check of kidney and urinary health.

4. Heart and lung checks

Depending on your age and risk, this may include an ECG (electrocardiogram = a recording of the heart's electrical activity) and a chest X-ray.

5. Cancer-related screening (personalised)

This is where personalisation matters most. Depending on your age, sex, and history, your doctor may discuss:

  • Colon screening, such as a stool test or colonoscopy (a thin camera used to look at the large bowel).
  • Upper endoscopy / gastroscopy - a thin camera passed through the mouth to look at the food pipe and stomach - where there are symptoms or risk factors.
  • Cervical, breast, or prostate screening as appropriate.

Many guidelines suggest starting certain cancer screenings from around age 45-50, but the right timing depends on you - your doctor will advise based on your history.

How your check-up is personalised

Two people the same age can need very different check-ups. A 45-year-old with a family history of bowel cancer, a 30-year-old athlete, and a frequent traveler each have different priorities. At YOUNIFY, a physician-led approach means we start with your story and build the investigations around it, rather than handing you a fixed list. That also means avoiding tests you do not need.

What to expect on the day

Some blood tests need fasting (usually 8-12 hours), so we will tell you in advance. Most check-ups are completed in a single visit, and most people go home the same day and return to normal activities. Results are reviewed with you so you understand what each number means and what, if anything, to do next.

Часто задаваемые вопросы

How often should I have a complete check-up?

For many healthy adults, a yearly or every-other-year review is reasonable, but the right interval depends on your age and risk. Your doctor will suggest a schedule that fits you.

Will a check-up find everything?

No check-up can find every possible condition. Screening is designed to catch common and important issues earlier and to build a baseline over time.

Do I need to fast?

Often yes, for accurate blood sugar and cholesterol results. We will confirm the exact instructions when you book.
