Adding the chin

Operation, stay, and recovery
- Hospital: 1 to 2 nights.
- First 48 hours: swelling builds and peaks. Your head is kept raised, with cold compresses and prescribed pain relief.
- First week: swelling is most visible. A soft diet and careful mouth care are needed while the incisions inside the mouth heal.
- Weeks 2 to 4: most patients are comfortable in public. Numbness over the chin and lower lip is common and usually temporary.
- Months 2 to 3: most swelling has resolved and the new contour is visible.
- Months 6 to 12: soft tissue finishes settling over the implant, and this is when the result is judged.
